BJP today took strong exception to Congress' attack on Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi over his support to film star Amitabh Bachchan by terming it as "anti-democracy mentality", even as it defended his "Talibans of untouchability" remark.

"The statements against Narendra Modi are a result of the anti-democracy mentality of Congress which does not believe in
making space for others to put forth their views," BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay said in New Delhi.

Asked if he justified the "Talibans of untouchability" remark of Modi against Congress, Vijay defended the Gujarat chief minister's statement saying "Taliban are those who enforce their stand and those who do not accept (it) are insulted."

In an apparent reference to Emergency, he said even the then prime minister late Indira Gandhi had used measures to quell the voices of protest.

"A democracy has no place for Stalinist mentality where people with differing view points are sent to concentration camps of Siberia," he said.

Earlier today, Congress dubbed Modi as a "frustrated" chief minister in the wake of his marathon questioning by the SIT in connection with a post-Godhra riots case.

"I can understand Modi is feeling very, very frustrated because for the first time in 63 years, a chief minister is being made to stand before the SIT for about 10 hours in a question and answer session," senior Congress leader Amibka Soni had said.

Following the controversy over Amitabh Bachchan sharing dias with Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan at a government function in Mumbai, Modi had remarked that those objecting to the actor's presence are "Talibans of untouchability".
