Nitin Gadkari claimed that the "pressure of CBI cases forced the BSP and Samajwadi Party leaders to side with Congress."
Accusing the BSP and Samajwadi Party of adopting double standards in dealing with Congress, BJP today said leaders who "change masks" to suit their political needs cannot work for the poor.
"Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are at loggerheads with Congress in Uttar Pradesh. But in Delhi they have helped Congress on the opposition-sponsored cut motions against price rise," BJP president Nitin Gadkari said here.
He said while SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad openly supported the cut motions against rise in fuel prices, they walked out when the same was put to vote in the Lok Sabha.
"Similarly, on Ambedkar Jayanti there was a race between Congress and BSP to garland the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in UP. Then on the day of the cut motions, Mayawatiji decided to side with the Congress," Gadkari said addressing Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ambavat) activists who joined the BJP.
The BJP leader claimed that the "pressure of CBI cases forced these leaders to side with Congress."
Terming the political rivalry between Congress, SP and BSP in Uttar Pradesh as "shadow boxing", he said leaders who "change masks to suit their political needs cannot work for the farmers and the poor. "It is an act of gaddari (treason)," he added.
Attacking Congress-led UPA, the BJP leader said the Government has failed to provide any reprieve to the farmers.
"From where I come, 10,000 farmers have committed suicide as they have not been able to pay back their loans... while a Mercedes is available at an interest of 8 per cent, tractor loans are available at 12.5 per cent. This the result of the
wrong policies of UPA, prime minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi," he said.
Targeting Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, he said 50,000 crore tonne wheat and rice is allowed to rot. "According to Sharad Pawar, it is later sold to distilleries for alcohol production," he said.
