Pakistani infiltrators allegedly backed by Pakistan’s troops on Saturday detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on the International border (IB) in Samba sector in a bid to prevent the realigning of the border fence aimed at stopping infiltration and maintaining better vigil. Five Border Security Force (BSF) men were injured in the blast.

The incident occurred at 9am when BSF troops were going for fencing work in the sector. “It was perhaps the remote control device that triggered the blast in the area. The explosion occurred near the SP2 post on Saturday morning and some people got minor injuries,” said K Srinivasan, deputy inspector general (DIG) of BSF (G) at Delhi headquarters.

The BSF officer said the aim of the blast was to stop the construction of the fencing work in the sector. “We want to realign the fence in this sector. The aim was to stop this construction work,” said Srinivasan. “The basic aim of the realignment is to plug holes if any”, he said.
