The much hunted and the mysterious first known, live-in partner of Indrani Mukherjea and the father of deceased Sheena and her brother Mikhail Bora – Siddhartha Das addressed the media, but with a covered face.

As the murder of media tycoon Indrani Mukherjea’s daughter Sheena Bora, unfolded over the past one week, the media focus shifted from the murder mystery to the biological father of Sheena, who the investigators believed could provide important clues to the ongoing investigation.

Hardly any facts could be gathered for the person, who was understood to be staying somewhere in Kolkata with his wife and son. Even his relatives – mother and brother back home in Guwahati could not provide any clues about Das’ whereabouts. It was a surprise Tuesday, when a leading regional daily suddenly revealed that Das was indeed leading an ordinary life with his wife and a 17-year-old son.

Soon after his pictures surfaced, media hounded the man and his residence. An irritated Das, tried to avoid media advances, but finally gave in and agreed to address a press conference.

He told reporters, “Yes. I am Sheena’s father.”

Das claimed that he was the father of Sheena and Mikhail. “Sheena was born in 1987 and Mikhail was born a year later.”

However, he contradicted an affidavit produced by Indrani’s parents that mentions him as the husband of Indrani Mukherjea.

“I did not marry Indrani. We were living together for three years and that is when the two children were born. Whoever had produced that document, I want to say that the document has been forged and there was no exchange of documents between us,” Das claimed, adding, “She left me and the children for money and better standard of living. She always aspired to be a part of the high society and I could not meet her expectations, given that I was jobless at that time. I wanted to raise my children but my meagre salary prevented me from taking up their responsibility.”

When quizzed, why he was concealing his identity he alleged, “I am hiding my face and identity because I am an ordinary man. I am not a high profile man and have small earnings. I fear to be sacked from my job and my son’s career is on stake. I live in a rented house and I also fear to be thrown out of the house.”

This apart, he also told reporters that he is ready to cooperate with Mumbai Police during the course of investigation. “I will cooperate with the Mumbai Police and the guilty in my daughter’s murder must be punished. If Indrani is found to be guilty, she should be hanged,” he said.
