Three persons were killed and many severely injured in a bloody clash between Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters at Makra village in Birbhum district in West Bengal. Several houses have also been gutted. According to media reports, the police was very late to come to the spot, arriving nearly three hours after the skirmish started.
Currently, there is a strong contingent of police personnel under Additional Superintendent of Police Ananda Roy on the spot. Two villagers, Tausif Sheikh and Sheikh Mijamel have been killed. One outsider, Suliaman Sheikh has also succumbed to bullet injuries.
The clash continued for more than two hours and country-made guns were used. According to 24 Ghanta, the channel belonging to Zee media, BJP leaders were supposed to go to Chakmondola village on Monday morning.
Reports suggested that nearly 100 armed men came from the nearby Makra village to attack the villagers. According to BJP, all these anti-social elements belong to TMC. BJP leaders allege that all the armed men targeted BJP workers in the village. The villagers then fought back and in the process three people lost their lives.
However, no one has been arrested in connection with the clash yet.
Makra village is adjacent to Chakmondola where the officer-in-charge of Parui police station was attacked during a raid on October 24. Parui police station officer-in-charge Prosenjit Dutta and three other policemen were injured when they raided Chakmondola village following reports that bombs were being manufactured there. Bombs were thrown at the police personnel during the raid.
A team of local BJP leaders was on Sunday stopped by the police from entering Chakmondola village on the ground that prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC had been imposed there.
