The Border Security Force (BSF) troops seized as many as 1200 cattle from Sobhapur near Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Malda district.

The operation was carried out on Thursday late night amidst the special drive launched by the BSF against the smuggling of cattle across the international border.

Sources in the BSF reveal that this huge consignment, comprising a huge number of cattle, was on its way to Bangladesh ahead of the Eid celebrations in that country.

“Our operation lasted the entire night and on several raids that were conducted, we managed to seize as many as 1200 cattle. The 36th battalion of the BSF carried out this operation around the Sobhapur BOP area,” said a BSF spokesperson.

A day ago, the BSF troops had seized a huge cache of fake currency (FICN) from the same district.

Considering these two incidents, the BSF has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen border domination so as to effectively check the menace of smuggling and activities of anti-national elements. On the other hand, troops and field commanders have been asked to maintain extra vigil on the border.
