BJP supporters hit the streets on Monday and marched towards the second-time elected Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence to register their protest against the attack on party leader Roopa Ganguly.

Supporters were led by state president Dilip Ghosh and former president Rahul Sinha as they were barred by the police from entering the Chief Minister’s house. The area near Jatin Das Park in Hazra soon turned into war-zone as police tried to stop BJP party supporters from breaking the barricades. Another BJP leader Locket Chatterjee was also seen participating in the protest march.

This protest came in the wake of the incident that took place a day earlier, in Bengal’s South 24 parganas district's Kakdwip area, where actor-turned politician Roopa Ganguly had gone to visit a party worker who was earlier attacked.

When Ganguly visited the injured party supporter, she was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress supporters along with other anti-socials. Her vehicle was vandalised and she had to be admitted to the hospital where she was treated and later discharged.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh has said that he would ask Central ministers to boycott the Chief Minister’s swearing-in ceremony to be held on March 27. Today while staging a protest he said, “If such attacks continue on BJP party supporters we will put up a demonstration at Chief Minister’s swearing-in ceremony".

Besides Kolkata, BJP put up road blockades at several districts in the state.
