Two more arrests in Govind Pansare murder case; duo provided weapon and bike

Of the two apprehended persons, Vasudev Suryavanshi was already arrested in Nalasopara arms case while Bharat Kurne was arrested by Karnataka SIT in Gauri Lankesh murder case.

Two persons were arrested by a Kolhapur Special Investigating Team (SIT) in connection with Govind Pansare murder case. Of the two apprehended persons, Vasudev Suryavanshi was already arrested in Nalasopara arms case while Bharat Kurne was arrested by Karnataka SIT in Gauri Lankesh murder case.

Kolhapur SIT told the court in Kolhapur that the investigation has revealed involvement of Suryavanshi and Kurne in the Pansare murder case, and therefore they were taken into custody from Maharashtra ATS and Karnataka SIT respectively.

While requesting the court to grant 14 days police custody of the duo, the SIT told the court that the investigation has established that Suryavanshi had arranged the two wheeler used in the Pansare murder. Establishing Kurne's role, the police told Kurne had transferred the 'used' weapon to killers. However, the police have not revealed that where that weapon was used before using it in Pansare case.

The court has granted seven days of police custody to Suryavanshi and Kurne.

With the arrest of these two, now the number of arrested persons has gone upto five. Earlier the investigating agency had arrested Sanatan Sanstha member Sameer Gaikwad, Virendra Tawde and Amol Kale in the same case.

Before arresting Tawde in Pansare murder case, he was arrested in Dr Narendra Dabholkar murder case and has been charge sheeted in it. Amol Kale was first first arrested by Karnataka SIT in Gauri Lankesh murder case and later Kolhapur SIT arrested him in Pansare case also.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is investigating the Dabholkar case had recently made a submission in Pune court where they had claimed that the murders of Dabholkar, Pansare, Lankesh and Karnataka writer MM Kalburgi are linked. on the backdrop of this submission, the arrests of Suryavanshi and Krune is considered significant.
