In 14 minutes flat, a gang of 13 women burglars broke into the premises of a printing press just before the dawn on October 21 and walked away with Rs five lakh worth of aluminum printing plates. They were caught on CCTV cameras carrying out the burglary.

Where did theft happen?

The burglary took place at plot No E-217, Express Printing Press in Kavi Nagar Industrial Area in Ghaziabad. An eight-foot high boundary wall did not deter the woman burglars. The printing press is owned by Vinit Tyagi, who has fitted the press premises with six to seven CCTV cameras.

When was burglary discovered?

The burglary was discovered by a press worker at around 9.15 am. He found the main door to the press lying wide open. A sheared lock was lying nearby as if cast aside after it was broken. He called up Tyagi, who went through the CCTV footage and was stunned by what he saw— A gang of women burglars! He called up the police.

What does footage show?

The burglary began at 5:16 am. Four women were seen scaling the boundary wall. They sauntered up to the main door. It took them two minutes to render the lock impotent. The four were later joined by five to six other women. The next footage, from 5:26 to 5:38 am, shows what happened inside the press premises.

What happened inside the press?

The women, dressed in Salwar-Kameez with heads covered, scouted the press premises. Within minutes they spotted what they wanted— the aluminum plates. They pulled out the plates, and bent them by stomping on them. They stuffed the plates into bags they had brought with them. They stayed inside till 5:38 am. Their getaway was caught by an outdoor CCTV camera.

What's press owner's take?

"They look to be not more than 20-years-old. They are very agile and quick. They definitely did a recce of the place before they struck. They had struck another factory last year, on August 15. They're organised, bold and do their stuff with a cool confidence. I am sure they can take care of themselves in a crunch."

What have the police done?

The police took a copy of the CCTV footage. Investigating officer AK Singh has started the investigation that got stalled due to Diwali and Bhaiya Dhooj. Police officer Singh went "patrolling". He said that he has put "Mukhbirs" on the case. He also went on a "training" stint, and Kavi Nagar SHO Avnish Gautam took over the investigation. "I do not think the case will ever be solved. Women are involved. Nobody wants it to be known to which community they belong to. The case is sensitive," said Tyagi.
