The promise to redraw the cricket landscape in the state has fallen flat. The ban on Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) stays and so do the endless unsavoury court hearings. The Modi coterie and the CP Joshi dispensation are passing the buck without even giving two hoots about the dilapidated state of the sport. They say they are sorry for the repercussions of their failure to work as a team that has affected cricketers, the ones who are the main stakeholders. But ostensibly, their actions are not in consonance of their token sorry.

“Yes we are responsible for the situation at hand, but it is Joshi who is stalling the progress,” RCA secretary RS Nandu said.

If the CP Joshi group is attributing Nandu’s stance of not withdrawing the cases filed against the BCCI by RCA for the impasse and perpetual ban on the association, the secretary has a different argument to make. “I am asking BCCI to give an affidavit saying as soon as the cases are withdrawn by us, they will lift the ban and will sanction funds to the association. Just because Joshiji doesn’t want the game to start in the state, he isn’t agreeed to my condition,” Nandu said. He further added that he will take back all the cases the moment the apex body gives them the affidavit.

Contrary to this, RCA’s president CP Joshi loyalist Rampal Sharma said that these are baseless demands and when BCCI has made it clear in the letter to RCA that it will remove the ban once Lalit Modi is removed from all cricketing affairs in the state and all cases are withdrawn, they will set the RCA free from the 4-year-long ban. “Now Modi has given his resignation, but case issue still remains. We are now waiting for Nandu to take back the cases so that we can approach BCCI. BCCI has made it clear, now it is Nandu who has to act,” Sharma said.

He is acting on what his lawyers are saying and that is a vicious cycle where the latter are making money with every hearing at the court, Sharma added. The Modi camp has squandered all the funds that were in the RCA coffers before the association was banned in paying to lawyers for fighting unnecessary court cases, he said, adding that everything will be exposed once the ban is lifted and the accounts are audited by an independent firm.

Meanwhile, the next HC hearing is scheduled on October 5.
