The driver, Shyam Rai, in his statement has revealed that it was Sanjeev Khanna who strangulated Sheena and the body was burned in Raigad.
More murky details emerged in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case as former STAR CEO Peter Mukerjea on Thursday went back on his claims admitting that Sheena had told him that she was not his wife Indrani's sister. In another twist, Indrani had ascribed the parentage of Sheena to her parents but her father disputed it.
However, the motive behind the murder remained a mystery even as the driver S P Rai and Sanjeev Khanna, a former husband of Indrani Mukerjea, are believed to have told police that Indrani, wife of former Star CEO Peter Mukerjea, had done a recce of the place where the body was to be dumped a day before the murder on April 24, 2012.
In Rai's statement, as per Hindustan Times, he has alleged that the murder was planned by Indrani. She had discussed her plan with Sanjeev, who came down to Mumbai on April 24, the report added.
Indrani and Sanjeev reportedly picked up Sheena from near a Jockey Exclusive shop in Bandra. The report states that Rai claimed Sheena was strangulated by Khanna and then the body was put in the bag which was kept in the boot of the car.
Rai further reportedly states that he drove the car to a forest area near Gagode village where the bag containing the body was burnt using petrol. It was in the wee hours on April 25, 2012 that the body was destroyed, the report added. Indrani, Sanjeev and Rai only left the place after they were assured that the bag was completely charred, the HT report said.
Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria on Thursday night told the mediapersons that they have managed to unravel the mystery behind the resignation email of Sheena, sent to her company. Maria revealed that forgery was done and help of a woman was taken for this job.
“Probe has revealed that the Sheena's resignation letter which was sent to her company was forged. The resignation letter was sent on May 5, 2012. We have also traced and recorded the statement of the woman who had signed the email on behalf of Sheena and had sent it to her company, at the behest of the female accused (Indrani). This is the most important evidence we have,” said Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria.
Maria also made another shocking revelation stating that, “In June 2012, Indrani had also written to the landlord of the Khar based rented house where Sheena stayed, pretending to be Sheena informing him for cancellation of tenancy.” Maria also said that teams of Mumbai police have spread out in Kolkata, Guwahati and other parts of the country for investigation.
