In a desperate attempt to muster numbers before the Election Commission, rebel veteran leader Sharad Yadav-led faction of Janata Dal (United) called its National Council meet here where it flaunted claim of having support of state presidents from 19 states and 600 delegates.

Claiming it as the real JD(U), the party also passed a resolution, constituting a three-member disciplinary committee led by Arun Kumar Srivastava that would look into allegations against Nitish Kumar and others. The other two members of the committee are Amitabh Dutta from West Bengal unit and ex-MP Arjun Rai.

The political resolution passed by the national executive declared all elections held under Anil Hegde as null and void, maintaining that he was appointed solely on the discretion of Nitish Kumar whereas it should have been done by the national executive.

“We have decided that those who have left the JD(U) was on their own accord and the party will not talk about them,” said Srivastava adding that the party will soon submit affidavits of all the national council’s members to the Election Commission.

National general secretary of Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) K C Tyagi, however, dubbed these efforts as mere antics of the Yadav camp that would not fetch them anything from the election commission.
