The Sessions Court in Dindoshi on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail application (ABA) of self-proclaimed godwoman Sukhwinder Kaur alias Radhe Maa, who has been named in a domestic violence and dowry harassment case. She is required to record her statement with the police on Friday.

On August 5, a 32-year-old woman had filed a complaint of domestic violence and dowry harassment against seven people, including her in-laws, husband, and Radhe Maa, with the Kandivali police. The woman had alleged that Maa instigated her in-laws, who have been her followers for the last several years, into harassing her.

Radhe Maa's application stated, "The complainant has made allegations only to ventilate her frustrations and dejection for being unsuccessful in securing a favourable order from the family court." Maa's lawyer advocate Ashok Gupte said his client was being framed, and she is fearful of being arrested.

Sanjeev Gupta, who handles public relations for Radhe Maa, said, "We will be going to the Kandivali police station (to record the statement). We will also decide whether to approach the higher court."

The public prosecutor, however, said the police had summoned Radhe Maa only for the purpose of investigation, and if she had noting to hide, she should not fear arrest.

The complainant's lawyer, advocate Sunny Wasker, meanwhile argued that Radhe Maa was an important person and had instigated the family. He said Radhe Maa was the decision-maker in the family, and the complainant couldn't even go out without her permission. "She was forced to do domestic work for Radhe Maa, and was beaten up whenever she refused," Wasker said. He also claimed that ever since the complaint was lodged, his client has been receiving threat calls.

Meanwhile, facing heat over charges ranging from dowry harassment, obscenity, cheating and abetment to suicide, Maa continued to plead her innocence. While speaking to the media earlier, she had said she was pure and pious, and was being troubled unnecessarily.

"The focus will now be on getting her statement recorded on Friday," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone XI) Vikram Deshmane.

More trouble for Radhe Maa
Television actor and former devotee of the controversial godwoman, Dolly Bindra, on Wednesday wrote to Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, claiming that she has received threatening calls and messages from an unknown number and suspects Radhe Maa's involvement in the matter. Bindra has also demanded police protection.
