After bringing a series of traffic related reforms in Bangalore during his tenure as the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dr. M A Saleem Commissioner of Police in Mysore has blazed a trail in making Mysore traffic violation free city. The concept called "public eye" has roped in every citizen of this city into watching over the traffic violators and also reports it to the police.

"It was a simple technique, I am sure every citizen has some knowledge of what constituted traffic violation, if he or she found them dangerous for the safety of the road users or felt the police should know about such violations they can take a picture of the violation with the number of the vehicle clearly visible and update it to the police website, if the evidence created by the citizen was viable and actionable under the traffic rules the automation centre will generate a notice and send it to the owner of the vehicle" Saleem told dna.

"It was not a new development we had launched it in Bangalore on 21 November 2012, and till the time I was holding charge of Additional Commissioner of Police(Traffic) in Bangalore we had received over 1200 uploads and everyone of them was actionable" he said.

Mysore city has uploaded 22 cases in just four days since the Public Eye was launched. "The Public Eye instills responsible citizenry among the people while the motorists will be aware of the lurking Camera or mobile Camera every time there was a tendency to commit a traffic violation. Simple violations like parking zone violations, one way violation, signal jumping, un-standardized licence plates, unsafe vehicles were some of the violations that catch the 'public eye'.

After successful working of Public Eye concept in Bangalore and Mysore the police were thinking of launching it in other cities too.
