An 18-year-old girl killed herself by jumping in front of a metro train in New Delhi’s Ghitorni station on Friday. According to family members, the girl had just finished her Class 12 examinations. They told the police that she was depressed with her performance, which probably led her to take the extreme step.  Despite the family’s efforts, the girl remained silent and reserved.

CCTV footage showed that the girl was roaming on the station’s platform number 2 after entering at 10.25 am. The footage showed that she was not fidgety or moving in a suspicious manner. However, at 10.48, the girl jumped in front of the train that was heading towards Samaypur Badli.

The incident also led to a short disruption in the metro services on the yellow line. The body was immediately removed and rushed to AIIMS, where the girl was declared brought dead.

“Initially, there was nothing that could help establish the girl’s identity as she had no ID. The Delhi Metro Rail Police was alerted and the girl was taken to AIIMS Trauma centre where she was declared dead on arrival. She was later identified and her family members were informed,” the officer said.
