Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained the hot favourite among visitors at the ninth edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019. The inaugural day saw bumper sales being made by stalls that sold merchandise related to the Prime Minister, but none of the stalls were willing to give their sales figures.

A booth that allowed visitors to take a 'virtual selfie' with PM Modi, using preset graphics, was extremely popular with enthusiasts standing in long queues for a photograph with the BJP leader.

A stall at the venue had several visitors, many of whom were BJP workers, arrived in great numbers to pick up pens, key chains, scarfs, caps, t-shirts with PM Modi pictures printed on them. It also had merchandise with 'NaMo Again' slogans on it. Interestingly, neither the stall owners nor those who came to purchase the merchandise were keen on revealing their identity.

The fact that most of the merchandise was economically priced also helped attract customers. "We don't have a sales target. We are just trying to popularise the merchandise. We are not looking at generating income from this," said a stall owner who did not wish to be named.

Paresh, a visitor who bought several t-shirts, said that he had come all the way from Nadiad to attend the event. "We are fans of PM Narendra Modi and we want him to be elected again. When I saw this t-shirt, I thought of buying this for my friends back home who are also Modi fans," said Paresh, who did not give his second name.

Jade Blue, the company that popularised Modi kurta and jacket, said that the sales have been good. "We have had a stall here in 2013 and at that time the enthusiasm for Modi to be PM was at its peak and the kurtas were very popular. We are witnessing similar trends this time too," said the store keeper.

Two booths offering 'selfie with Modi' also found themselves flooded with people. Stall owners said that so far 250 people had clicked selfies with PM Modi and that the queue was still pretty long. It also helped that the selfies were free and the photographs were being mailed to the participants for no extra charge.
