A district lok adalat in Indore has directed an insurance company to pay a tusker owner Rs 7.50 lakh as compensation over death of his elephant in an accident two years ago.

The lok adalat (where claims are sorted out through dialogue and mutual consent between the parties) directed the National Insurance Company to pay Rs 7.50 lakh to the elephant owner Israel Khan in Indore on Saturday. The insurance company has agreed to pay the amount to Khan, National Lok Adalat Convener and Additional District Judge P K Sinha, told PTI on Sunday. Khan's elephant was killed by a truck here on November 6, 2012, said an advocate who knows the details of the case, adding that Khan had earlier staked a claim of whopping Rs 1.80 crore compensation.
