At the inauguration speech, he was all praises for West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. "CM Mamata Banerjee said a very good thing– that the nation will move ahead faster when the Centre and state work together. He lamented the presence of 'tension' between the state and Centre. "Sadly Centre-State relations were tensed for a long time. I have been the chief minister of a state for a long time and I know that such behaviour will not be good."
He emphasised that the Centre will work with the states calling them 'Team India'. "We have brought in a change, we focussed on co-operative federalism. Delhi alone will not run the nation. India will not change without a 'Team India'. The prime minister and the chief ministers are one team that will take India ahead. Nation is bigger than any party."
Further praising the CM Banerjee, he spoke about how the state's help made his trip successful. "What has happened today would not be possible had the state government not co-operated. That is why I say 'Team India'
He went on to talk about other joint work undertaken by 'Team India' , "The agreement on Bangladesh happened after so many years. The states and all parties co-operated. This was a display of Team India."
He spoke about how Centre is trying to get more money for the states. "We also accepted the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission. Result is that states will get more money."
He closed his speech talking about how the country perceived by the world. "A year ago the world had a different perception about India. Now the world says in one voice that India is a fast growing economy"
