Former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar today approached a sessions court here challenging his arrest in the alleged fake degree case.

In an application filed before the sessions court, Tomar alleged that police had arrested him yesterday in violation of prescribed procedure under the law.

Tomar, who quit as Delhi Law Minister after his arrest on Tuesday, claims to have done his BSc from RML Avadh University, Faizabad.

"My degree is absolutely genuine. It is a conspiracy by BJP and the central government. Yes, They are not letting AAP government work," he told reporters this morning at the railway station in Lucknow from where he was being taken to Faizabad by road.

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Jain refused to give an urgent hearing to Tomar's plea and said that the matter will be heard tomorrow.

Congress seeks Kejriwal's resignation

The Congress Party has demanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation on moral grounds.

Congress spokesperson P C Chacko told ANI that Kejriwal has been shielding Tomar and not taking any action against him despite being aware of him possessing a fake law degree.

“The chief minister is more guilty than the person being accused, CM was shielding him, on moral grounds CM should resign...It’s a moral question on part of Arvind Kejriwal, he knew his law minister was
possessing a fake degree, but no action was taken,” said Chacko.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that the Jitendra Singh Tomar case has exposed the ‘true face’ of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“Jitendra Singh Tomar case exposes the true face of AAP. Even after this incident came to light, AAP maintained its silence on the matter. The party which used to hold press conferences to ask for other people’s resignations never asked for Tomar’s resignation,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI.

“When they had the option of asking for a resignation they did not. They did so only when they had no other option,” he added.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also said that the arrest of Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar is an act of vendetta.

"Arrest of Jitendra Tomar Law Minister by Delhi Police is an act of vendetta. Is he the only one who has forged his Educational Degrees?," tweeted Singh.
