Opposition JD(S) on Monday moved a no confidence motion against the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka with an all round attack on it, alleging it has failed to fulfil expectations of the people. Initiating the debate, former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy said he moved the motion to discuss various issues and conceded that their move will not be able to bring down the government, which came into power two years ago, as his party lacks the numbers.

Congress has 123 MLAs in the 225 member Assembly, while BJP and JD(S) have 44 and 40 MLAs respectively. "This government has failed to meet the expectations of the people.
They have not been able to fulfill the promise they have made, so I move this no confidence motion against the government," Kumaraswamy said. "They had promised of giving a clean, transparent, and corruption-free government, but there is corruption and illegalities at various departments. Administration had completely failed," he added.
His allegations against the government met with a stiff opposition from the Treasury benches with his arch-rival, Power Minister D K Shivakumar, and Home Minister K J George leading from the front. Kumaraswamy first took on the government over its alleged failure in handling various farmer-related issues and the increasing number of farmer suicides in the state. "Government has completely forgot what they had promised to farmers before coming to power. They have not been able to fulfill the expectations of the farming community. They have completely lost the track. No concrete steps have been taken to improve the financial status of farmers," he said.
