For the second time in the last 24 hours, the Indian Army suffered casualties as another soldier was killed in the line of duty while two were injured when troops foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday. A militant was also killed in the gunfight.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the Indian Army noticed movement of militants near the LoC in Keran sector.  Alert troops immediately cordoned off the area. However, the militants opened fire, in which one soldier was killed and two sustained injuries.

“Infiltration bid has been eliminated in the Keran sector. One terrorist was killed. One soldier martyred and two others injured,” said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

The Indian Army is busy in search operations to sanitize the area and look for militants, if any.  “Search operation is in progress”, said Colonel Kalia.
