Amid the ongoing students' unrest, the Jammu and Kashmir government warned that they will be forced to permanently shut the educational institutions in the valley if the students do not resume classes.

"Our aim is to not shut the schools and colleges. However, if the protests continue, then it will remain shut permanently and nobody should ask us why they are not being reopened. If the situation persists, then it will be difficult to reopen them and they will lose out on their education," said Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Education and Finance.

The students of the already violence-stricken valley are protesting against the rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl from the Bakarwal community. Colleges and higher secondary schools have been shut for the last few days after the students boycotted classes and marched to protest over the issue which shook the nation in the past few weeks. Several students have been injured in clashes with the security officers as they were allegedly engaged in incidences of stone-pelting.

"We will devise a strategy on how to deal with the situation. I am telling the students for the last time to not come on roads. If you take to the streets, you will be treated as rowdies. Let the courts do justice," added Bukhari.

"The Kathua rape and murder was an emotional issue and children are venting out their anger. They should go back to schools. Otherwise, there will fall short of attendance, resulting in academic year loss," he said. The department of education in Kashmir is organizing a special meeting with the principals of schools and colleges to chalk out the future strategy to put the system back on track.
