Giving the order that the helmet rule for two-wheelers must be enforced strictly in the state, the Madras High Court said that no exemption can be made for women and children.
Justice N Kirubakaran dismissed the plea filed by JSN Nimmu Vasanth over the mandatory helmet government order.
The judge also stated that the helmet rule was for the safety of the people and it was in the interest of the public. He also said that hairstyle seems to be more important that safety.
The petitioner had stated that nature had provided a skull for humans as protection. Vasanth’s contentions were called “scurrilous, uncharitable and contemptuous” by Justice Kirubakaran.
The judge further added that the World Health Organisation urged people to wear helmets and more than 155 countries had enforced the helmet rule.
