Though the exit polls have given a clear majority of more than 50% seats to BJP in the Gujarat Assembly polls, the candidates of both the parties have kept their fingers crossed for Monday, the day of counting. There is a possibility that bigwigs can lose with a thin margin.
Vatva: While BJP has fielded Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja, Congress candidate is businessman Bipin Patel. The seat covers a portion of Ahmedabad city dominated by Patel, OBC and Muslim communities and and rural outskirts which has as huge population of Thakor community. Political observers say the Patel community could vote against Jadeja as two people from the community in this area were killed in open firing by police during reservation agitation. Jadeja may get a breather as polarisation in Muslim votes is likely as two Muslim candidates are in the fray.
Sayajigunj: This seat of Vadodara city has been a BJP bastion but this time, it is witnessing a triangular contest among BJP candidate Jitu Sukhadia, Congress candidate Narendra Ravat and local front of Rashtriya Samajvadi Party's (RSP) candidate Rajesh Ayre. Ayre defected from BJP following a controversy and formed a new forum challenging the BJP. In the local government body polls, RSP candidates won in good number that shows that Ayre could create dent in BJP's fort in Assembly polls too.
Varachha Road: Majority of voters here have voted for BJP in the past. The Patel agitation and impact of Hardik Patel over voters in cities from Saurashtra and North Gujarat region could upset the BJP here.
Mangrol (ST): The triangular contest could dim victory chances of BJP candidate and cabinet minister Ganpat Vasava, a tribal leader. Though there was electoral understanding between Congress and South Gujarat's tribal leader Chhotu Vasava's Bhartiya Tribal Party, both fielded candidates here. The Congress candidate is Narsinh Vasava while the BTP candidate is Uttam Vasava. The polarisation of votes could go in favour or against any of the candidates on this seat.
Bhuj: This seat in Kutch region seems to be slipping from the hands of BJP due to anti-incumbancy against BJP candidate Dr Nima Acharya. There were reports of corruption and illegal and forceful land grabbing complaints against Acharya and her son. On the other hand, Congress gave ticket to social worker Adam Chaki who could get the support of Muslim community. Only BJP organisation's hardwork could save Acharya here.
