Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre has worked for poor, downtrodden and Dalits in the country in the last two-and-half-years. Addressing 'Smriti Sandhya', a gathering of former Jan Sangh leaders at Kozhikode Zamorin's Higher Secondary school, he said his agenda was to empower the last man in the last row and take India to the top of the world.

Modi wanted party workers to take to the people the achievements and various welfare schemes initiated by the BJP-led NDA government. He also wanted the new generation to "learn lessons from the old party leaders who scarified for the party".

The state BJP organised the Smriti Sandhya to felicitate those Jan Sangh leaders who had convened at the 1967 meet where Deendayal Upadyaya was elected as All India President. Party activists, who underwent jail term during the Emergency period, were also among the more than 1,000 people felicitated at the function.

BJP veterans LK Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi could not attend the function as they were held up at a traffic jam at Kozhikode beach area where the public meeting had taken place. RSS Ideologue P Parameshwaran and former Union minister O Rajagopal were among those who attended the function. BJP President Amit Shah also spoke on the occasion.
