Goa government officers labeled Christians as 'pig eaters', says legislator

A legislator on Thursday shocked the Goa Assembly when he claimed that some of the government officers in South district called Christians as 'pig eaters'.

"Some government officers in the hospitals speak in a very bad manner. I feel ashamed to say that some of the officers in South district say that hospitals there are only to save pig eaters," Caetan Silva, a Goa Vikas Party (GVP) MLA told the State Assembly on Thursday. GVP is supporting BJP-led government with party's leader Fransisco Miccky Pacheco being a part of the state cabinet.

Silva, speaking on the Governor's address on the floor of the House, said that if required, he can even name the officer in the House. "These are the words used by a government officer. These words have been used because Christians eat pork ? Officers should not do this. I know who the officer is," Silva said.

Christians form 27 per cent of Goa's population.
