Apparently, the Congress took the position after sensing that the continuous disruptions could be counterproductive, especially when the government is bringing bill on black money in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
"The government is trying to give an impression through the media that Gadkari issue is being taken up by the Congress because it does not want the government to take up important legislations. This impression is wrong.
We are ready to discuss bills but we could not have been a silent spectator on CAG's report on Purti group that is linked to Gadkari.... Bring bill on black money and we'll help you to pass it," said leader of opposition, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
However, lodging its protest on Gadkari's reply to the clarifications sought by opposition, the Congress walked out of the house immediately afterwards.
The upper house went in for several disruptions since morning and finally got in order at 4 pm when the government relented and agreed to have discussion on Gadkari's clarification.
Putting up defence, Gadkari said that Purti group was the only company that returned the maximum amount and did not use subsidy at all. "As IREDA is only for green power that is why we wrote a letter on September 14, 2009 and requested for a change to coal," said Gadkari.
