Bombay HC raps govt over partial data submission

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the state government over incomplete data provided to it on noise pollution levels in the state.

A division bench of Justice AS Oka and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai expressed their displeasure, saying "This is partial compliance of the orders passed by us. The details of action initiated soon after receiving complaints, whether music system or other noise polluting equipment were seized are not provided. No mention of measures taken to stop the noise on complaints received are given, citizens would be happy that finally prosecution is being done, but immediate steps taken are more of their concern."

Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, Senior Counsel for the government then assured the court that police would be told about the quick action it needs to take following complaints and while filing the next compliance report.

The court had last year asked the government to strictly implement noise pollution rules. Subsequently, police across the state were given with decibel meter monitors after the HC directed a phase-wise procurement.
