Parth Singh from Hamirpur district's Maudaha village in Uttar Pradesh was found hanging in his bedroom on Sunday night.
The class sixth student had his father's phone with him and was reportedly playing the suicide game, that instructs a player to commit suicide after completing 50 challenges, police said.
Parth had been playing Blue Whale game from the past few days, according to his family.
"When the boy did not open the door, his father broke it open and found him hanging. We are sending IT experts to go through the mobile records and history," Maudaha circle officer (CO) Abhishek Yadav told a news agency.
The Director General of Police Sulkhan Singh, in a letter to all district police chiefs had urged for complete compliance to the centre's order of banning the dangerous game.
However, this is not the first case in India in connection to the Blue Whale Challenge. A few days back, a class 10 boy from West Bengal's Midnapore district killed himself by suffocating to death. In another incident, a 14-year-old Mumbai boy jumped off the terrace of his home to win the Blue Whale Challenge.
Believed to have originated in Russia, the game has claimed more than 100 lives in Russia and UK. It targets depressed youngsters on a social media group. The group encourages people to become a participant of the game and end his or her life, which is the last task of the game. After signing up, a participant is assigned daily tasks for the next 50 days. It includes inflicting self-injury, watching horror movies, waking up at odd hours to wrap the task and even carving a whale shape on the arms.
