The independent committee probing the alleged sexual assault charges against BCCI CEO Rahul Johri is likely to be given a week’s extension as the pressure is mounting on it to summon the victim to depose before the panel.

The committee headed by former Allahabad High Court judge (retd) Rakesh Sharma and includes women’s rights lawyer Veena Gowda, former chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, Barkha Singh, was to conclude the investigation by Thursday. However, by allowing Johri to depose on Tuesday, and not even trying to reach out to the victim, the committee invited criticism.

DNA has reliably learnt that only one complainant, a woman from United Kingdom, deposed through video conference. She is believed to be the same person for whom former Mumbai cricketer Shishir Hattangadi stood up for and approached the committee.

However, no efforts were made to reach out to BCCI’s own female employee (victim).

BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary, COA members Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji, Cricket Association of Bihar secretary Aditya Verma, cricketer Hattangadi along with former BCCI anti-corruption chief Neeraj Kumar (through video conferencing) have so far deposed before the committee.

It is understood that the three-member committee is likely to meet a few more persons and there is also a strong possibility of Johri appearing again before it.

Johri’s earlier deposition went on for nearly seven hours. Insiders revealed that most of those who deposed questioned BCCI’s administrators to explain “why a proper inquiry panel was not set up after a complaint was received against Johri by the lady employee?”

“It’s about setting standards and it’s about good governance. How come Diana’s (Edulji) call to suspend Johri till investigation was ignored?” an office-bearer asked the committee members.
