Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Saturday said the Karnataka’s economy has crippled under the misrule of the Congress, the growth rate was more than 10% during the BJP rule and it has now come down to around five percent.

Amit Shah said the core committee of the state BJP unit had met on Saturday and discussed about the ongoing membership programme launched by the BJP state unit. “The meeting has decided to contact 25 lakh families and explain about the misrule of Congress government led by Siddaramaiah in Karnataka. Law and order situation in the state is not good and the corruption rampant and state fiancés are not in good condition. We will explain to the people of Karnataka during the massive membership drive this month,’’ Shah said.

Coming down heavily on the failure of Siddaramaiah government in the state, he said the Congress government in Karnataka has become a non-performing government. “The government proved to be an abysmal failure in matters of governance, law and order. It has failed to inclusively represent the cause of 6.2 crore people and has instead indulged in sectarian populism. The mandate of the people is being squandered by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government,’’ he said.

He said that enthusiasm of people of Karnataka to join BJP has been overwhelming. “Almost 20,000 people are becoming members of BJP each day. BJP will achieve its target of one crore members in the state by March 2015,’’ he said.

On the law and order situation in the state, especially in Bengaluru, he said Bengaluru has been shocked and shaken by the recent incident of blast of improvised explosive device on Church Street on December 29. “Our Central Minister for Home Rajnath Singh has swiftly responded to the situation by immediately taking the initiative of calling the Chief Minister and offering NIA assistance in probing the incident and nabbing those responsible. We, however, do not wish to politicize acts of terror and believe that we as a civil society, as a nation, as Indians need to fight terrorism unitedly. I also offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased Bhavani,’’ he said.

When asked about the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP president said that all options are open. “We will explore all those options available,’’ he said.

He said the BJP government led by Narendra Modi gave great relief to the working middle class after increasing the tax exemption limit to Rs 2.5 lakh for general taxpayers and from Rs 2.50 to Rs 3 lakh for senior citizens. “The Central Government has introduced Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna under which the country has opened more than 10 crore bank accounts. With the help of this scheme financial inclusion and empowerment of poor has taken place as they can get rid of moneylenders. The target of the scheme is to open the account of every family,’’ he said.

Earlier, Prahlad Joshi, BJP Karnataka unit president, said the BJP has chalked out a plan to enroll 10 lakh members on January 10 and 11 and 15 lakh members on January 24 and 25.
