Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Friday avoided commenting on the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Aircel-Maxis deal case, saying one must wait for the final verdict of the court.

"The matter is presently in the court. It would not be appropriate to comment on the case at this point of time. We must wait for the court's decision and everybody will have to accept the court's decision," Alvi told ANI here. The CBI earlier in the day chargesheeted former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanidhi Maran and six others, including four companies, in a special court in the Aircel-Maxis deal case.

They have been chargesheeted for criminal conspiracy under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. "The CBI has filed a chargesheet in the Aircel-Maxis case against four individuals and four companies……….It is a Supreme Court monitored case and further investigation is in progress," said CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad.

The chargesheet was filed before the Special CBI Judge O P Saini who fixed it for consideration on September 11. The CBI has filed the chargesheet a day after the Supreme Court declined Dayanidhi Maran's plea seeking to restrain the investigating agency from filing the chargesheet. The CBI had told the court on August 14 that it would file a chargesheet in the last week of August.

The DMK leader is accused of allegedly forcing Aircel owner C Sivasankaran to sell his firm to Malaysian business tycoon T Ananda Krishnan, the owner of the Maxis Group in return for huge investment in 2006 in Sun TV, which is owned by the Maran family. Maran is accused of not clearing spectrum licenses till after Maxis routed crores to the Maran's family-owned Sun Direct.
