AIADMK presidium chairman and party’s nominee E Madhusudhanan and DMK’s M Maruthuganesh filed their nominations for the December 21 by-elections to the RK Nagar Assembly Constituency, necessitated by the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was the sitting MLA, in December last year.
Sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran, who lost the battle for the party’s ‘two leaves’ symbol when the Election Commission awarded it to the camp led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam, also filed his papers. He was accompanied by his cadres waving a flag resembling AIADMK’s party flag but without picture of CN Annadurai. He will be contesting as an independent candidate. Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa would be filing her nomination on Monday.
