177 students awarded PG diplomas at Institute of Rural Management Anand convocation

177 students were awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) at the 37th convocation of Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) at Anand on Saturday.

IRMA said in an official communication that 177 students were awarded PGDRM and one Fellow Programme in Rural Management at the convocation.

Padma Shri awardee Dr Abhay Bang, who founded the Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, was the chief guest at the convocation.

In his address, Dr Bang urged the graduating students to "go where problems are, and not where facilities are".

"When you go out, you have bigger challenges to tackle, but you have more resources to solve those problems. You are entering the world with bigger possibilities," he said.

IRMA chairman Dilip Rath exhorted the passing out students to be the change they wish to see.

Addressing that convocation, IRMA director Prof Hitesh Bhatt spoke about the institute's highlights for the academic year.

"As an indication of increased engagement of business as well as development sector organizations with rural sector, IRMA received 315 job offers from 114 recruiters for the current batch. A number of multinational agribusiness corporations like Tolaram, Afriventures, Kancor, ADM, Godrej Agro, ITC, Zuari, Mars International, along with others participated in the placements," he said.

According to IRMA, the maximum salary for the batch was Rs. 46.50 lakh. The average salary was Rs11.39 lakh against Rs10.22 lakh last year. The median salary is Rs10 lakh as against Rs8.40 lakh last year. They said that like last year, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation emerged as the single largest recruiter inducting 16 candidates. A total of 16 candidates took up offers made by the government and non-government development organisations.

88 Som-Lalit students get degrees

Eighty-eight students of Som-Lalit Institute of Management Studies were conferred PG degrees at the Institute’s 21st convocation on Saturday. The Institute said that three students were also awarded gold medals for excellence. Former Gujarat HC judge CK Buch, who was the chief guest at the convocation, told the passing out students that the passage to the top was through a hard life, stress and many disappointments. He stressed on the importance of taking risks in professional life.
