Jet Airways had a close shave when a flight carrying 152 passengers from Doha to Kochi had to make an emergency leading at Thiruvanathapuram with almost empty fuel tanks. According to a report, pilots manning the flight carried out 6 go-around over Cochin International Airport and Bangalore International Airport after they failed to locate the runaway.
The delay caused the fuel level come down to the mandatory minimum level of 3500 kg which forced the pilots to land at Thiruvanathapuram airport under emergency conditions citing low fuel level. A few more minutes of delay would have actually stalled the plane and lead to it dropping from the sky! The DCGA has suspended the pilots involved and is reviewing the fuel policy that is followed by Indian commercial jets.
