This year, breast cancer replaced cervical cancer as the top killer among Indian women. With the number of women suffering from the disease increasing globally, it is vital that one finds ways to prevent it.

One of the simpler ways is to alter your diet by including foods which help inhibit the development of breast cancer cells. Here are a few fruits and veggies which will help you keep breast cancer at bay.

Plums: Researchers at a Texas organisation have said that plums are as good for health as the superfood blueberries. They have high phenols which are strong antioxidants that may help kill breast cancer cells while keeping healthy ones safe.

Tomatoes: Harvard Medical School study said that the lycopene in the fruit helped stop the growth of cancer cells.

Broccoli: They are rich in phytonutrients which stops cancer growth and prevents generation of new cancer cells. The phytonutrients also help change the estrogen metabolism to create a kind of the hormone that doesn't raise the risk of getting cancer.

Garlic: The allyl sulfide in garlic changes the process where healthy cells turn cancerous. Some studies say that it can stop the formation of new cancer cells and lowers the spread of the cancer cells.

Sauerkraut: This veggie has high levels of glucosinolates which stop the growth of cancer cells including breast cancer cells. A study conducted by researchers at University of Michigan has found that people who had included sauerkraut thrice a week in their diets had 72% lower chances of getting breast cancer than those who consumed it less than twice a week
