So Thor got a makeover!

On Wednesday, the first look of many characters of Thor: Ragnarok was unveiled by Marvel Studios.

Marvel released nine new images as part of the first look of the third movie chronicling the journey of the Norse God to the other end of the universe. The first thing that strikes you in those images is that Thor's hammer and his long, blonde mane are missing. He now wields two giant swords and has a haircut which makes him look like a twin of Russell Crowe's Maximus from the movie Gladiator.

On the cover of Entertainment Weekly, Chris Hemsworth's Thor is flanked by Cate Blanchett in her Hela avatar to his right and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie to his left.

The synopsis of the movie reads, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!”

Mark Ruffalo is coming back to reprise his role of Bruce Banner. Thor and Hulk were missing from action when the events of Captain America: Civil War took place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor: Ragnarok will provide the answers to their whereabouts.

Both, Banner and Thor, are imprisoned on the other side of the universe on planet Sakaar. They will have to fight in a deadly gladiatorial battle to survive.

Speaking of returns, Tom Hiddleston's Loki is also back. His sleek black hair and the grin are just the same. But his costume now has a yellow cape. Edna Mode won't be happy to see this.

It remains to be seen if the events of Thor: The Dark World changed the slimy god's behaviour and how he will team up with his brother to take down Hela.

Cate Blanchett as Hela looks breathtaking. The smokey eyes with the killer stare show you that the goddess of death and ruler of Hel and Niffleheim is not the one to be messed with.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Hela gets out of prison after a millennium and now wants to end the Asgardian civilization to punish them all because Odin locked her up. But that's not all. Her wrath will also bring the fight to Earth and New York will be the battleground.

Combine this piece of information with the mid-credit scene of Doctor Strange and the concept art of this movie, we will see the Big Apple get destroyed yet again.

Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson, and Jeff Goldblum are the new additions to the cast. The new images only show Thompson and Goldblum in their complete costumes.

The third solo outing of Thor is directed by Taika Waititi. Sir Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba will reprise their roles along with the top billed cast. Benedict Cumberbatch will do a cameo as his Doctor Strange has promised to help Thor find his father.

The movie will release in India on November 3.
