Film: Robinson Crusoe
Director: Vincent Kesteloot, Ben Stassen
Voice Cast: David Howard, Yuri Lowenthal, Laila Berzins, Lindsay Torrance, Colin Metzger, Joey Camen, Doug Stone, Debi Tinsley, Jeff Doucette

What's it about:

How much can you take of everyday paradise? How much can you bear of the routine before you get infinitely bored? You get the answer to that when you meet Mac (Howard), a parrot who lives on an uncharted island with his friends Kiki, the kingfisher (Torrance), Rosie, the tapir (Berzins), Scrubby the almost-blind goat (Camen), Carmello, the chameleon (Metzger) and others. Their 'perfect paradise' comes under a shadow every time Mac mentions the outside world and when a shipwrecked Robinson Crusoe and his pooch Aynsley (Stone) get washed on shore, is promptly attacked by some of the aforementioned animals.
But Mac, who is all excited about Crusoe's presence on the island, is quickly named Tuesday by the latter and loves being a flunkey to him. It's enough to make his BFF Kiki lose it and tell him as she sees it. Of course, as time passes, the other animals warm up to him. But not Kiki
And there are those pesky cats May and Mal (Tinsley and Doucette) and their kittens they have to contend with...

What's hot:

Belgian animation studio Wave Pictures has put up a product that looks top-of-the-line at par with the best. Everything from skin and fur, water effects rendering, and photorealistic animation makes it a treat to view.

What's not:

It's one thing to take a beloved tale and turn it on its head and tell it from another perspective, but this film is just borderline childish in its approach. Slapstick for slapstick's sake works when its done well, but not like its done here. This isn't an animation film children of all ages will enjoy. It's downright juvenile in parts. Also, the only animal to die is Aynsley, the dog. That won't go down well with dog lovers.

What to do:

The only thing that works for the film is the visuals. Everything else is not worth your time or money.
