Actress Rakhi Sawant distributed 100 sewing machines during an event organised in Mumbai on Saturday, by Awaz Foundation, an NGO.
On the sidelines of India's 68th Independence Day, Sawant attended the event and gave away sewing machines to women in need.
"I'm very glad that I could be of any help to women of Mumbai. All the widows present here are like our mothers and sisters. We are distributing sewing machines to them," said Sawant.
While addressing the gathering, Sawant spoke on women empowerment and said she believed in gender equality.
Recently, Sawant had also distributed computers at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. She had formed her own political outfit, Rashtriya Aam Party, during country's mammoth parliamentary elections this year.
