Ever since Salman Khan was appointed the Goodwill Ambassador for the 2016 Rio Olympics for the Indian contingent, there has been perpetual discussion regarding the justifiability of a Bollywood celebrity, who isn't a sportsperson, for this position. Even though Salman Khan has barely spoken about the issue, his father Salim Khan defended his son on Twitter and even took on the legend, Milkha Singh.
Here are his tweets!
WINDING UP. Salman has been in controversy for the last 25 years regularly. Not a single time i supported him. I was known as a fair person.

Now first time i support him on my belief that what he is doing is right. Instead and alcohol or tobacco he is promoting sports.

and i am called unfair, arrogant and asked to apologise. "Oh lord forgive them for they know not what they do" - Jesus

Obviously referring to the recent hit-and-run trial or the black buck case that had Salman in and out of courtrooms, Salim Khan has come out in full support of his son for promoting sports instead of alcohol and other substances. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also spoke in favour of the appointment.
Many sportspersons such as Abhinav Bindra, Mary Kom, Sardar Singh, and Vishwanathan Anand have expressed their approval and feel that this move will garner more viewership to the Olympics because of Salman Khan's stardom and popularity.
Salman Khan will be appearing as a Haryanvi wrestler in his upcoming film along with Anushka Sharma and Randeep Hooda, in Sultan, which will release on July 6.
