In real life, IIM grads baulk at playing the role of extras. But in reel life, as in the case of Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots, students of IIM-Bangalore relished being extras.

There’s a palpable sense of excitement at the IIM-B campus as 3 Idiots, which was partially shot on the campus, was released on Thursday. Now all of them are eager to watch the movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s celebrated fiction, Five Point Someone.
Saurav Pani, an IIM-B student and Aamir fan, has reasons to be elated. He figures in the posters for the movie as well as in the clip that details the making of 3 Idiots. Pani says: “In the movie I play chess with Aamir. Obviously, Aamir won, and I was booed by my batchmates. In fact, the whole chess team tried their luck playing against him.”

Pani plays a junior in a ragging sequence in 3 Idiots. “I will watch the film. My friends and family know that I’m in it. It was an entire night of shooting and quite a tiring experience. I think our life is much easier than that of the stars and crew working in films,” he adds.
Raunaq Saran, another student, says: “Most of us appeared as extras in the film. I don’t know if those parts have been edited, but I’m surely watching the film.”
