Over the years, there have been many actors who have played Biblical characters on screen. The year 2014, saw Hollywood return to the Bible for inspiration with massive hits like Noah and Son of God. Russell Crowe and Diogo Morgado were convincing in their respective parts as Noah and Jesus, next in line is Christian Bale. Here are some actors, who who have played characters from the Bible convincingly.

Charlton Heston as Moses and Ben-Hur
Playing a Biblical character is not easy, and no one probably understood that as much as Charlton Heston who took on the challenge in films like The Ten Commandments (1956), Ben-Hur (1959) and The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). While the earlier two films went on to become huge blockbusters winning many awards, the latter is probably remembered only for its failure at the box office that killed the Hollywood Bible-epic genre for decades.

Jim Caviezel as Jesus Christ
Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ (2004) had a huge impact on Jim Caviezel's life, (the actor who played Christ). While Jim was a regular name on cinema hoardings before agreeing to take the lead in the controversial, bloody retelling of Christ's final days. He said that he was shunned by Hollywood since taking the role. However, that does not take away from his acting talent. The actor impressed critics and audiences from across the world with a heart wrenching performance, but the movie also made news for the wrong reasons, with some critics accusing Gibson of antisemitism.

Russell Crowe as Noah
The actor may received both positive and negative reactions for playing Noah (2014), a man torn between his family and faith. However, there is no denying that the Crowe does make an impact, moving you with his soul-searching role though not at times convincing in rationale but yet moving because of his inner struggle with emotions as he battles a catastrophe.

Diogo Morgado as Jesus Christ
Morgado, who reprises the part in the film version Son of God (2014) was considered too sexy for the part. The actor himself admitted. that he was in shock and panic because of the responsibility of the role, but did not allow that to hamper his performance.
