For the last over one week, the Capital has been drenched in white and red, in anticipation of Christmas that falls on Monday. From malls to restaurants to markets, cutting across religions, the Yuletide spirit has taken over the Delhiites.

Keeping in pace with the festive cheer and drawing awe from visitors, luxury hotels in the city have put up specially decorated trees. Spinning decorations around the birth of Jesus Christ and other symbols associated with Christmas, such as gingerbread houses, these hotels are a telling example of marrying secularism with festivity.

For instance, Westin Gurgaon has set up a sustainable 17.5 ft tree made from 500 beer bottles and festive paraphernalia, such as reeds and caps. The Oberoi in Gurgaon is attracting kids with its 20 feet gingerbread house, made from 300 kg sugar, 400 kg flour, 250 kg honey, and 10 kg spices, including ginger powder, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, not to mention 550 eggs.

Prominent malls in Delhi, such Select City Walk, DLF Promenade, and DLF Emporio, are celebrating the festival with Santa Claus regaling young and adults alike. The Santa can be seen granting wishes and goodies to eager shoppers, who are making the best of seasonal sales.

According to salespersons in malls, people have been spending the way they would have had on Diwali. Ravi Kumar, a salesperson at a high street fashion brand, said: "The festive cheer is exactly the way it is during Diwali. It is no longer a festival celebrated only by Christians."

Meanwhile, some organisations are also spreading warmth and cheer among the underprivileged. The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel is playing host to children from the NGO Saksham Kids. The children were treated with delectable appetisers and beverages, and they decorated trees, cut the Christmas cake and received surprise gifts from Santa.

Eateries in markets such as Khan Market, Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, and Greater Kailash-I have curated special menus.
