The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Wednesday questioned Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid and recreated the sequence of events after the attack on him outside the high-security Lutyen's Zone on Monday.

The officers of the Special Cell questioned Khalid and his friends who were present with him at the time of the incident. Khalid was taken along with the police officers outside the Constitution Club in order to recreate the sequence of events.

The police are checking social networking sites as well as the threatening messages he had received in order to ascertain who all can be behind the attack.

The case was transferred to the elite unit of Delhi Police- Special Cell on Tuesday. Khalid had recently filed a complaint with the Delhi Police that he and Gujarat's Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani had received death threats from a man who claimed to be Ravi Pujari but despite that, no efforts were made to trace the messages.

The Delhi Polie have scanned several CCTV footages from the area and in three of them the accused who is wearing a cap, white shirt, and blue jeans can be seen running towards the Patel Chowk Metro station.

"I was returning after having tea. One person came from behind, pushed me down and tried to fire at me. I ran for my life. He fled from there," Khalid said.

The incident took place outside the Constitution Club around 2.30 pm where Khalid was to attend a function 'Khauff Se Azaadi' (Freedom from Fear), organised by United Against Hate and featuring speakers such as lawyer Prashant Bhushan, Delhi University professor Apoorvanand and the late Rohith Vemula's mother Radhika Vemula.
