Taking a tough stand on the delay in the clearance of files for constituting statutory committees by the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government, the BJP-ruled civic body, the North Corporation, has decided to approach the court and sit on dharna if the said files were not cleared within two days.

North Delhi mayor Preeti Agarwal, on Thursday, accused the Delhi government of sitting over the file for over two and a half months since the elections to the three municipal corporations were held on April 23.

The North Corporation, in the meeting of the House on Thursday, passed a resolution regarding the issue, which was also supported by the Opposition Congress councillors.

The mayor directed the Municipal Commissioner to get in touch with the Delhi government on the issue and get the files for the notification of the zones cleared immediately.

According to the mayor since the notification of zone-wise municipal wards is still pending with the Delhi government, the statutory committees responsible for carrying out development work could not be constituted, which was hampering civic services to be provided to citizens.

“It has been two and a half months since the elections were held. However the AAP government is still sitting over the files pending notification of the zones after delimitation was done. If the files are not cleared within two days, we will sit on dharna and even approach the court,” said Agarwal.

The clearance is crucial, as after the delimitation of zones, some zones have an increased number of wards while the others have few which makes it a  haphazard situation for the administration as well as for carrying out development projects.
