Owing to academic and family pressure, a minor boy allegedly shot himself with his father's licensed revolver in North-West Delhi's Adarsh Nagar area on Monday. The boy underwent a surgery and is stated to be out of danger.

According to the police, the parents of the child separated around five years ago, following which he was depressed. The 14-year-old boy shot himself in the chest. The bullet, however, missed his heart and he was operated upon at a private hospital.

Investigating officials revealed that the boy was facing academic pressure from his father to perform well as his final exams of Class 9 were approaching.

After the parents of the child were separated, he started living with his father. The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the boy was at his home. "His father who was also present at home at the time of the incident heard the gunshot and rushed to his room. He found the child lying in a pool of blood with his revolver next to him. He was rushed to a hospital where he is recuperating," said a police officer.

A case under Arms Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a Class 9 student was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the school's washroom in North-East Delhi's Karwal Nagar area on Thursday morning. The deceased, identified as Tushar, was spotted lying on the floor inside the toilet. The school authorities rushed him to the hospital and the family was informed. The family alleged that the boy was thrashed by his friends which led to his death. However, the police said they are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of his death. Sources revealed that the body did not have any injury marks.
