Four burglars who targetted high-end electronic showrooms in the Capital were arrested on Wednesday after some letters printed on the truck they used were captured by a CCTV camera. The police also recovered two trucks full of household electronics, worth Rs 3 crore, including 742 coffee makers, 131 LED TVs, 281 electric kettles, 112 electric irons, 513 choppers, 384 blenders, 80 vacuum cleaners, 128 sandwich grillers, among other items. At present, more raids are underway.

Cops said the accused used to sell these articles in the black market in Nepal and other neighbouring countries. They were identified as Ashok Kumar, 45, Ashok Kumar Malhotra, 29, Akhilesh Kumar, 22, and Vijeet Kumar, 40.

The gang first came to limelight on December 23 last year, after an incident of burglary was reported from south Delhi's Mahipalpur. Complainant Dheeraj Aneja told police that 454 branded LED TVs were burgled from his godown. A case in this regard was registered at the Vasant Kunj police station.

"The CCTV footage from the area was scanned and it was revealed that the truck being used to transport the stolen goods had a mark resembling three English letters. The footage was developed and enhanced forensically and it was concluded that the letters were V, T and S. They possibly denoted the acronym for a transport company. So, every transport company in the Delhi-NCR region was scanned, and after questioning over 200 suspects, a team led by ACP KP Kukreti zeroed in on a company located in Mongolpuri," DCP (south) Ishwar Singh said.

It was further revealed that the truck from the logistics company was hired to go to Patna. As part of the probe, the police team went as far as Bihar-Nepal border.

"Several hideouts were raided and it was established that the accused were residents of Champaran in Bihar. Further efforts led to the arrest of two gang members from Delhi. Based on the information given by them, two more arrests were made from Patna and Vaishali in Bihar," the DCP said.

The accused said they used to approach the logistics company posing as the owner of showrooms. "They would break open the showrooms and then change the locks. They also arranged for fake papers, purportedly showing sale purchase bills and tax receipts. In Patna, the accused had rented a warehouse through a receiver and the stolen goods were stashed there for distribution in the black markets of neighbouring countries, including Nepal," Singh said.
