A Delhi-based jeweller died after he allegedly jumped off the sixth floor office of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Paryavaran Bhawan in CGO complex, located on Lodhi Road, on Wednesday afternoon.

Gaurav Gupta reportedly took the extreme step after the DRI seized more than 200 kg silver and over 40 kg gold, worth over Rs 13 crore, he had allegedly smuggled.

While Gupta's wife Stuti alleged he was subjected to thorough interrogation, the DRI maintained he was neither summoned nor arrested.

According to sources, officers from its Delhi zonal unit searched three premises in Shalimar Bagh area on Tuesday and recovered around 6 kg foreign marked gold and 213 kg silver from Gupta's residence. "During further searches on Wednesday, they recovered 35 kg gold from the door panel of a safe at one of the shops owned by him," a senior DRI officials said. He added that later in the day, around 12.30 pm, Gupta visited the DRI office and jumped from the window of the visitor's room.

Stuti has written to Shalimar Bagh SHO demanding action against a DRI official Nishant and his team. Police and DRI officials said Gupta was facing some family dispute, an angle the police are investigating.
