Jealous youth held for killing 17-year-old friend

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her school senior near a park in Sector 17 area of Rohini on Wednesday evening. The accused has been arrested.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Sarthak Kapoor (19), pursuing BCA from a private institute in Delhi, who confronted Shreya Sharma (17)  while she was going to a coaching centre in Rohini Sector 17.

“Around 5 pm, she left home for tuition, usually she returns home by 8 pm. But when it was past 8.30 pm we were worried and started calling her but her phone was switched off. We contacted the tuition teacher to which he said that the girl had did not come for tuition,” said Yogesh, Shreya’s father.

The family started searching for and contacted all her friends. “We panicked and started searching for her in the neighborhood. We  went to register a missing complaint with police,” Sharma said.

The police started its investigation and called her friends, on scanning the phone contacts they also called Sarthak Kapoor. On questiong him, the police found his statements inconsistent and took him to the custody. 

“He was taken into custody for questioning and later confessed to his crime and led us to a spot near the park where the victim’s body was lying.” said Rishi Pal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini).

During interrogation, the accused initially refused, but, later confessed of the crime and revealed that, the two were in a relationship but Kapoor had grown insecure.
