Delhi cops arrest gang of copper scrap looters

The North East District Police on Monday arrested a gang of robbers who were accused of looting copper scrap extracted from fridges in a godown at Karawal Nagar at knifepoint. A similar incident took place a few days later when bags of copper scrap along with a motorcycle was robbed.

According to the police, the CCTV footages show the robbed articles being taken away in a car with a fake number plate. The alleged car was taken to New Seemapuri from Jagdamba Colony. The victim Mohd. Kafeel said: "At around 3.40 pm, three to four people entered the godown and took eight bags of copper scrap at knifepoint."

The criminals were interrogated and it was informed that the accused Virender, a resident of Loni, had the same car and also has a record of robbery.

The police tracked the accused and seized him with the help of CCTV footages. The accused was interrogated about the whole incident and a stolen car, two bolt cutters were recovered from him. Billo, Chotu and Rahul, the other three members of the gang, were also caught. All of them are drug addicts and drop-outs from different schools. "A car used in the commission of the crime, a car stolen from the area of PS Sarai Rohilla, a motorcycle, three pistols and two long butcher knives were recovered from the gang, and further investigation is going on," said Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police North-East District.
